2005 Gulf Coast Raggedy Hugs

We all have been deeply moved the last two weeks by all we have seen and heard following the destruction left by Hurricane Katrina along the Gulf Coast. Many folks have contacted us and have expressed the desire to give some raggedy hugs to those affected, similar to what so many of you did after 9/11 and last year's Florida hurricanes. We always know that raggedy people are some of the kindest and most giving people, so we truly appreciate all the things that so many of you are already doing, whether it is on the local level, in your state, or the national level.

Raggedy Land would like to let you know of an effort being made in Lafayette, LA (which is located just west of New Orleans). Cheryl's brother, Bob Zannini, is pastor of a church in Lafayette and his church is assisting with distributing supplies. Trucks from as far away as the New England area have brought supplies to the church and, working in conjunction with the Red Cross, have distributed supplies to where they are most needed, including the Cajun Dome and various area shelters. Working with Bob and this church, Raggedy Land has launched "Gulf Coast Raggedy Hugs" to provide Raggedy Ann & Andy dolls throughout this area. There are thousands of people, especially children, stricken by the hurricane that need a lot of raggedy hugs right now, so we are asking you to send new and/or gently loved dolls to this effort. Those organizing this effort will make sure they get to where they are needed. What better way to reach out to so many that need extra hugs and smiles at this devastating time in their lives.

We would like to thank all of you who donated dolls to Gulf Coast Raggedy Hugs! Over 800 dolls were lovingly donated and distributed, which brought smiles to so many faces. Thank you, and may God bless you all!
